Stephen Woods Obituary

Stephen Nathaniel Woods, a devoted father and family man and life-long resident of Harlem, NY, died unexpectedly on the 5th of August 2020, at the young age of 55 in his home.  He is predeceased by his brothers, Leon, Larry, RoyLee, and Alonzo, his sisters Albertina and Beatrice, and his grandmother, Lelah Weaver.

Stephen was born at home on Sunday, October 4, 1964, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Roylee and Elizabeth Fannie Mae Woods.  Stephen, affectionately known as “Uncle P,” aka “Powerful,” was the youngest of five brothers and seven sisters and one baby sister.   Yes, he was the twelfth child.  He was playful and brilliant.  With all those siblings, there was plenty of fun during several events and holidays.

Stephen attended Public School 26 back in the early ’70s.  He graduated and moved on to Junior High School 35, and he attended Westinghouse Vocational High School all in Brooklyn, N.Y.  Later in life, Stephen attended Kingsborough College, earning his Bachelor’s degree.  Regardless of what obstacles came into his life, he knew to put God first.

Some of Stephen’s favorite things were singing and cooking.  He loved to sing! And he could “cook.”  In 2003, Stephen became a member of the Retro Active Band as the lead singer.  He taught himself to play different instruments.  In 2012, Stephen and his son Lil Leon started Powerful Entertainment Production.  Where he produced and recorded music, he wrote.  He was computer savvy and loved being an uncle, father, and grandfather.  Stephen’s last accomplishment was becoming a member of Change Healthcare staff, showing love to his many clients.

Stephen leaves to mourn his lifetime partner, Phyllis Frazier, the mother of his three youngest children Steven Woods Jr., Leon Woods, and Valerie Woods, Walter Frazier, Tasha Denise Frazier.  Nine grandchildren Ronald, Desiree, Jahzere, Zachariah, Amir, ShyAsia, Steven, Makenzie, Jaden, six sisters, Evon Woods, Karen Fuller (Leroy), Faye Hill, Elizabeth Franklin (Wayne), Claudette Waterman (Darnell), and Francine Scott.  A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews, and grandnieces and nephews, cousins, two best friends Dezo, Heav, and many other friends.   “I know he loved you all!”
