Dr. Howard Leopold Barrow, Jr.

Dr. Howard Leopold Barrow, Jr., 71, entered in eternal peace on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York, NY, surrounded by family physically and virtually. Howard was born in Belize City, Central America, on December 4, 1949, to Howard Leopold Barrow, Sr. and Mae Idolly Pommells – Joseph. Dr. Barrow grew up in Belize City, attended St. John’s High School (where he won the open scholarship upon graduation). Afterward attended St. John’s college in Belize City. Howard was a child prodigy and excelled at everything he did as an adolescent.  His nickname was “Juni.” 

 On August 1, 1977, he received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. He specialized in Plastic and Cosmetic surgery. Howard did a rotating internship at Kingston Public Hospital in Jamaica in 1977. Dr. Barrow had friends from the US, Belize, Jamaica, and the UK. 

Dr. Howard L. Barrow, Jr. did his general residency surgery at The Brooklyn Hospital back in June 1983. He moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, in 1992, and his last known job of employment was at Baptist Health South Florida in Coral Gables, FL, until the Fall of 2008. 

He enjoyed playing and watching soccer/basketball/cricket, taking pictures of nature and his family. Howard is survived by his three children, Denise, Howard III, and Ruquyaah, his sisters Normah Barrow and Greta Cain; brothers Dennis Pomells and John Wallace; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. 

Predeceased by father Howard Leopold Barrow Sr., mother Greta Mae Idolly Pomells - Joseph, his loving sister Olga "Dottie" Pomells who helped raise and assist him throughout his life, sister Mavis Barrow, brothers Albert Pomells and George Pomells, Jr.
